Concerns have been raised with Councillors about parked vehicles narrowing the width of Main Street, especially in the area of the Village Hall, potentially making it very difficult for large emergency vehicles to pass. In addition, there are also concerns about double parking at the Church Street junction which blocks the view of oncoming vehicles for drivers travelling along Main Street, potentially resulting in an accident.
The Parish Council is aware, and accepts, that parking in Belton is a problem. Roads, especially in the centre of the village, were never designed to accommodate the number of motor vehicles that residents currently have, sometimes two or more per household. There is no easy solution to this problem but the Parish Council is asking for your help to try and ease the situation.
Should you have access to a garage or off-road parking, please use it so as to free up space on the road for those households who do not have such an amenity.
Please park your vehicle(s) responsibly so as not to cause obstruction for other road users, and in accordance with the advice given in the Highway Code.
Please do not park your vehicle(s) in such a location which may prevent or obstruct access to other parts of the village for emergency vehicles.
Please be assured that the priority for the Parish Council with regard to parking in Belton is the safety of all residents and visitors. As well as asking for your help in this matter, the Parish Council will be seeking the advice of the County Council’s Highway Department. Should you, however, have any practical suggestions which may help, please do let us know.
