It is with great sadness we have to inform the village that the lamp on Back Lane was, yet again, shot out with an air pistol or rifle.
This is the fourth time since Christmas.
The police are involved and we have recent information from the village which suggests, very sadly, that it is, in fact, young villagers, which is deeply disappointing.
This is an illegal act as weapons of this type should not be used near or in public places or by persons under the age of 18 years. Whoever is responsible for causing the damage is committing a criminal offence and if caught faces the prospect of receiving a criminal conviction and record.
The person(s) responsible appear(s) to stand beneath the lamp and shoot upwards. The angle of the shot holes confirms this.
The Parish Council had to take the cost of this village vandalism into consideration when setting the recent precept and increase it accordingly. This means that we shall all be paying for the repairs of the deliberate damage through our council tax bills!
The Parish Council have had the lamp fixed for what will be, the last time. If the person responsible shoots out the light again it will not be repaired again.
If you know of anyone who has such weapons the Parish Council and no doubt, the village would appreciate you ensuring they are kept in a locked cabinet and the key put in a secure place so villagers are not put at risk either by being in the way of a stray pellet which can cause serious harm, or result in having less light on Back Lane during the hours of darkness..
Please also share this information with your neighbours in the event they have not seen the articles on the website.
