The matter of home security is often one of interest to many villagers. Bernie Crouch of the Sun Inn has kindly identified a possible problem and makes the following advice available:
Anyone who has a night latch as security on a door with glass panels should consider adding a mortice deadlock for occasions when they are not at home, however most night latches have a key deadlock feature. This is when you turn the key a full 360 degrees then the night latch cannot be opened from the inside or by a burglar having broken the glass.
Beware of this feature, if you are at home, and this feature has been activated by key from the outside you cannot open the door from the inside without deactivating the key deadlock feature.
There are many sources of advice if anyone is not sure about home security, I believe the police have advice leaflets, local locksmiths, builders, and carpenters may well provide advice and I would happily provide any free advice if anyone was unsure about any of the above.
And this advice from our local police:
We are happy to conduct security surveys for any villagers who would like to take advantage of the offer. This is available if you contact the Parish Council at email@example.com giving your address and daytime telephone number as the text with security survey in the subject line. All details will be forwarded to Constable Paul Le Pla by the end of April and he will be in contact in due course.
