Well, things are busy on the old Finchley House home front, for those who pass by regularly you will have seen the skips being regularly delivered, none of them intended!! What started off as small jobs with renovating a bedroom floor to bring the original wooden floors back to life has ended up with a complete replastering and rewiring job. All this when I pulled a little of the wall paper off to see what was behind it…the plaster just started falling away and you know what it’s like, once you start, you can’t stop! That leads us on to the bathroom, what we thought would be a reseal job on the shower has turned in to a full on bathroom renovation when we discovered rotten floors and the shower unit originally put on back to front (not by me)…old houses, don’t ya love ’em! This will be closely followed by the damp course being done in July…can’t wait! It has taken us an age to find really good trades people and most of them were found through talking to people in the village. We now have a great plumber, who is currently busy on our bathroom, so hands off! A great electrician and hopefully the plasterer will make a start in a couple of weeks, we feel like we’re living in student accommodation with the mess!
We have however, had time for a little fine dining…yes us! I have to share a great meal that we found on line after having some prosecco left over. I know, how could we leave prosecco? Have a look at the link http://www.lovefood.com/guide/recipes/17814/chicken-with-prosecco-and-shallots-recipe, it was absolutely amazing and well worth leaving a little prosecco over for. Another little tip, we recently discovered Farndon Fields farm shop, thanks to Jan Warren. If you get the chance, grab the vegetables, herbs and locally farmed chicken from there, it just adds to this recipe and the whole experience of the farm shop is fantastic, the coffee shop serves great cake and delicious food http://www.farndonfields.co.uk/.
Until next time…
